On February 8, 2024, the Program in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies hosted a webinar featuring Dr. Chandni Desai, Assistant Professor in the Program for Critical Studies of Equity and Solidarity at University of Toronto. Dr. Desai’s areas of research, teaching, and supervision include: comparative settler colonialisms, Palestine studies, the politics of the Middle East, state violence (carceral politics, militarism and war), cultures of resistance and revolution, political economy, third world internationalism, solidarity, memory, oral history, anti-racism, and feminism. Her webinar presentation, titled “Nakba Continued: Genocide in Gaza,” analyzed the gendered impacts of Israeli state-sanctioned sexualized violence on current and future generations of Palestinians. Over forty people attended Dr. Desai’s presentation, with attendees tuning in from across the United States and Canada.
