WGSS Statement on Solidarity with #BLM
rosamond.thalkenThe Program in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) at Washington State University is in steadfast solidarity with all those who are protesting the state-sanctioned killings of Black lives in the U.S. and globally. Even at the time of drafting this statement, the incidents of violence against, and murders of Black people (including unhighlighted cases of Black women, Black trans people, and Black folks with disabilities) continue to rise. We join in protest to call for justice for the lives of Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Layleen Polanco, Rayshad Brooks and all others, whose premature deaths are a direct consequence of white supremacy and a blatantly racist disregard for Black life by the police. We further call attention to Ruth Wilson Gilmore’s definition of racism as premature death and condemn it as unacceptable. » More …
Dr. Pavithra Narayanan has accepted the position of Academic Director for the Vancouver College of Arts & Sciences. She has been appointed to a four-year term, beginning July 1, 2020.

InQueery 2019 took place at the Elson S. Floyd Cultural Center in Pullman on October 21 with close to 100 people attending. This year’s theme was Queering Disability: Dialogue and Change at the Intersections, and the symposium welcomed Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha as keynote speaker. 
The graduate student club “GPAWS” hosted a Trans Day of Visibility event as part of a global celebration of transgender people, and to raise awareness about the discrimination trans people still face. 
WGSS hosted a lunch with Franchesca Ramsey and majors and minors on March 21 during Women’s History Month 2019. During the lunch, students had the opportunity to ask Ramsey about her work, prior to her keynote address for Women’s History Month at the University of Idaho later that evening.
