WGSS Statement on Solidarity with #BLM
rosamond.thalkenThe Program in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) at Washington State University is in steadfast solidarity with all those who are protesting the state-sanctioned killings of Black lives in the U.S. and globally. Even at the time of drafting this statement, the incidents of violence against, and murders of Black people (including unhighlighted cases of Black women, Black trans people, and Black folks with disabilities) continue to rise. We join in protest to call for justice for the lives of Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Layleen Polanco, Rayshad Brooks and all others, whose premature deaths are a direct consequence of white supremacy and a blatantly racist disregard for Black life by the police. We further call attention to Ruth Wilson Gilmore’s definition of racism as premature death and condemn it as unacceptable. » More …
